An over is a bet on the combined number of points or goals scored by both teams being greater than the total. In order to win a bet on the over both competing teams must combine for more points than the set total.

The other side of the total is known as the under.

Example

The total for the match below between the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks is set at 48.5. In order to win a bet on the over both teams would need to combine for 49 or more points. An example of this would be a 35-14 win for Green Bay.
