Under

An under is a bet on the combined number of points or goals scored by both teams being less than the total. In order to win a bet on the under both competing teams must combine for less points than the set total. The other side of the total is known as the over.

Bets on the under are usually not popular amongst casual sportsbettors as cheering against scoring plays can be unpleasant.

Example

The total for the NFL match below between the New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens is set at 44.5. A bettor who wagers on the under would win if both teams combine for 44 or less points. For example if the Patriots were to win 21-16 there would be 37 combined points and the under would win.
